Black Grapes and Pear Pie

Take your traditional pies to the next level. Black grapes, pears and scrumptious pastry come together for a striking dessert.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp grated orange peel
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 4 cups black seedless grapes
  • 3 cups cored, pared and sliced fresh pears (about 3 medium pears)
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 2 sheets frozen shortcrust pastry
  • 1 tbsp butter

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 220°C.
  • Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, orange peel and cloves, mix well.
  • Add in the orange juice, grapes and pears. Toss to combine.
  • Line a 23cm oven safe pie dish with one sheet of defrosted pastry.
  • Spoon in the fruit mixture and dot with butter.
  • Cut the remaining pastry into 2cm strips..
  • Arrange strips in lattice pattern over the fruit filling.
  • Fold the ends of the lattice strips under edge of the bottom crust. Seal and flute the edges.
  • Bake for 10 mins. Then reduce heat to 190°C and bake for a further 35 to 40 mins until the pastry is golden and the filling begins to bubble. Alternatively, if your pie dish is microwave safe, you can cook the pie in a 700-800watt microwave on high for 10 to 12 mins before transferring to a conventional oven at 220°C for a further 10 mins or until pastry is golden brown.
  • Serve immediately.
  • Enjoy!
